Join Our Week of Action for the MORE Act
Drug Policy Alliance
Friend,

Last year, you helped us make history when the House Judiciary Committee approved the MORE Act. It’s the most sweeping marijuana reform bill to ever be considered and get that far in Congress.

This week, we’re counting on you again to make sure it gets a vote on the House floor this September.

Join our week of action to step up the pressure for marijuana justice. Tell your House Representative it’s time to end the war on marijuana and to move the MORE Act forward next month.

Every day of this week you can join our actions on social media to raise awareness and target House leaders who have the power to advance the MORE Act. Check out the toolkit for easy ways to participate on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The war on marijuana has ruined countless lives, disproportionately affecting Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people and low-income communities. A marijuana conviction can have life-long consequences impacting access to housing, education, and work. And even though many states have legalized marijuana, the people most devastated by prohibition are still left behind.

The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment & Expungement (MORE) Act is a step towards justice. It would de-schedule marijuana and end federal prohibition in a fair way by reinvesting tax revenue back into communities most affected by failed marijuana laws. It would support equitable licensing, allow for expungement of marijuana cases, and prevent deportation for marijuana offenses.

Ending marijuana prohibition is more critical than ever especially in the face of COVID-19, the fight for racial justice, and demands to decrease the use of police for drugs and other offenses.

Yet there’s a chance Congress won’t move meaningful reform forward. We need to force them to act by September or else we’ll have to start all over next year.

During this week of action, please email your House Representative and join our actions on social media to demand a House vote on the MORE Act next month.

I hope you will make your voice heard and spread the word to help us end the war on marijuana and repair the harms of prohibition.

  Sincerely,

Queen Adesuyi
