The Trump Administration's Shameful Flores Rule Endangers Children [ [link removed] ]

Last week the Trump Administration announced a final rule that would weaken protections for migrant children and make it easier to imprison them and their families for longer periods of time. The final "Flores" rule is yet another example of the Trump Administration's blatant disregard for children's health and safety. If implemented, the rule will deny asylum-seeking children basic necessities, and they and their families will face indefinite imprisonment. As part of our response to this rule, CLASP is joining many other groups in an "amicus curiea" brief that will be filed on August 30.

[ [link removed] ]* The recently finalized "public charge" rule would cause immigrant families to lose access to the basics we all need to survive. The rule would make immigrant families afraid to seek programs that help them stay strong and productive and raise children who thrive. Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility Is Not a SNAP Loophole [ [link removed] ] The Trump Administration claims that its proposal to end broad-based categorical eligibility (BBCE) would "close a loophole" that makes it "easy" to get SNAP. That's simply untrue. Ending BBCE would take away food assistance from people who've proven through a robust application process that they need it.

Overcoming 400 Years of Oppression [ [link removed] ]

Last week, CLASP staff participated in the Cities United meeting in Hampton, Virginia, which coincided with the 400-year anniversary of African enslavement. Our Youth team, which works to improve policies that support young men of color, played numerous roles at the meeting.
