Last week, Leaders We Deserve-endorsed candidate Rep. Christian Menefee
stood in line with travelers and his constituents at Houston’s main
airport.

Not to catch a flight — to listen.

And to show people exactly what’s causing this chaos.

The government has been partially shut down for 50 days now. Nearly 500
TSA officers have had to quit because they’ve gone weeks without pay, and
thousands more are struggling to afford rent, gas, and to put food on
their tables.

On top of all that, Congress just left town for a two week recess.

They took off with no deal for unpaid TSA workers who have now missed two
full paychecks, and with no remorse as they leave travelers stranded in
lines that have hit the highest wait times in TSA history.

Democrats have been clear — they want to fund TSA, but the GOP has blocked
any attempt to do so nine times so far.

Make no mistake, John. They’re
holding TSA workers’ paychecks hostage to protect the rogue agency that
killed Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and Keith Porter in broad daylight. They
want more money for ICE so they can continue letting them terrorize our
communities.

That is the kind of bullshit we’re dealing with.

Listen, Christian didn’t have to show up at the airport. He did so because
that’s what real leadership looks like. Not tweeting, not sending out
press releases, but standing shoulder to shoulder with the people who are
being failed by this government again, and making it clear who he’s
fighting for.

We need more of that energy in Washington. A lot more.
