Recently, President Trump bragged about an executive order that would effectively drain Social Security -- during the anniversary month of the bedrock program no less.
Before President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law in 1935, about half of our nation's seniors lived in poverty. Today, Social Security is an earned benefit and a promise to America's seniors that when you work hard throughout your life, if you pay into the system, then you'll be able to retire with dignity.
Now, Trump wants to pull the rug out from under workers by halting payroll taxes that finance Social Security and gutting billions of dollars from it and other programs that Americans rely on like Medicare.
I promised to speak out every single time Trump threatens the well-being of American workers with his dangerous agenda, which is why I'm taking a stand again. Please join me and demand Trump and Republicans to stop their attacks on Social Security >>
Trump's plan wouldn't even help most workers and it definitely wouldn't help the millions who have been laid off from their jobs. Instead as usual with Trump, it would disproportionately benefit rich CEOs and executives.
And while Trump tries to gut Social Security from the White House, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is trying to do the same thing in Congress.
McConnell and Republicans are considering a "relief" package that would include a measure that would make even more cuts to Social Security.
Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are using the current health crisis to continue their assault on Social Security.
We need to speak out -- will you add your name to mine and demand Trump, McConnell, and Republicans stop their attacks on Social Security?
Social Security has been around for 85 years. Thank you for helping me protect it for generations to come.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
