Friend,
I’m not asking you for a campaign contribution today, but I do need your help.
By now, you’ve heard about the ads on TV attacking me with glaring distortions of my record, funded by groups of extremist billionaires. You have probably even seen them yourself.
I’m going to set the record straight because, folks, the issue here is even bigger than this election, this seat, or this campaign. And it’s going to take all of us.
These ads are not just a threat to our campaign – that, believe me, we could take – but the disinformation they spread is a danger to democracy. When the results came in on Election Day in 2017, I knew what the people of Alabama entrusted me to do. They’d listened carefully to the facts, weighed my promises, and decided to entrust their lives and livelihoods, in part, to me – nothing has ever been so humbling, moving, or motivating.
These false attacks spread by my opponent’s campaign, Mitch McConnell’s allies, and these clubs of Wall Street billionaires are attempts at hijacking this election.
See the truth for yourself >>
Exposing this is going to take more than running our own rebuttal ads on TV. Every one of us will need to help set the record straight. It’s going to take all of us sharing on social media, letters to the editor, calls into radio shows, and conversations over the dinner table or after church – especially the difficult conversations.
Today, I am asking you to help and please start these conversations by sharing our fact-checking website, OneAlabamaFacts.com, with Alabama family, friends, neighbors or social media platforms today.
I would also really like to hear how your conversations go. Send me a message on Twitter at @DougJones or reply to this email and let me know how they went.
As always, I really appreciate you being part of this campaign. Thank you for everything you do.
Together,
Doug
