Michigan has had a turbulent history with its state Medicaid program. While GOP lawmakers in Congress have tried to repeal the ACA, the state saw more than 2 million people enrolled in its Medicaid/CHIP program as of March 2020. That number has grown significantly during the COVID crisis. At the beginning of 2020, Michigan tried to enforce work requirements for the Medicaid Expansion Program, but it was quickly overturned by a judge who saw the importance of guaranteeing healthcare. Now, more than ever, the people of Michigan are recognizing just how essential healthcare is to every person, and they made their voices heard on Tuesday.
