John – we've never been closer to defeating the NRA and ending their reign of terror for good. And I hope you'll give me a moment to tell you why this is so personal and important to us at Brady.
Nearly 40 years ago in March 1981, a bullet tore through our founder and namesake Jim Brady’s skull during the assassination attempt on President Reagan. It left Jim partially paralyzed – but he and his wife Sarah turned their pain and grief into political triumph, dedicating their lives to protecting others from gun violence. That determination led to Brady and a lifelong fight against what Jim called "the Evil Empire" – the NRA.
John, the NRA has spent decades pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into blocking every single piece of common-sense gun safety legislation we propose. They even tried to stop the Brady Bill. It took six votes over seven years and three presidencies to become law. But thanks to the continued activism from supporters like you, we fought and we won.
We're still fighting Jim’s passionate battle to save lives today – and now, we're closer than ever to defeating the "Evil Empire" for good.
After allegations of fraud and abuse, the ousting of their leadership, and reports of a deep financial crisis, the NRA is on the verge of collapse. And while a new lawsuit could dissolve them for good, we can't let up in our fight to hold them and their supporters accountable. We have to name names, make noise, and raise our voices to create a brighter future for all Americans. We have to do it for Jim and Sarah Brady – and for all those who have had their lives torn apart by gun violence.
Defeating the NRA for good means rooting out their bought-and-paid-for politicians, and that takes resources. That's why a group of fired up donors is MATCHING every donation up to our $50,000 rapid-response goal – but only until 11:59 p.m tonight.
John, if we’re going to finally defeat the NRA once and for all and pass life-saving legislation, we need you to give $5 or more right now – whatever you can spare before our 11:59 p.m. deadline – to DOUBLE your impact in Brady's fight to prevent gun violence, elect gun safety champions to Congress and the White House, and make the NRA a relic of the past. We know that the momentum is on our side. Just ask the 97% who support universal background checks or the 67% who support a ban on assault weapons. For decades, the primary roadblock to a safer America has been the NRA – and at this immediate moment, we have a real chance to end their grip on our political leaders and pass life-saving laws.
We can elect a gun safety majority to Congress and the White House and create a safer world for our children. We can save lives through common-sense action. But the only way we’ll get there is if supporters like you contribute right now and DOUBLE your impact before our 11:59 p.m. deadline to help us defeat the NRA:
Please, will you give $5 or more now – every gift will be DOUBLED – to defeat the NRA once and for all and finally pass gun safety reforms that we know will save lives?

Thanks for joining our righteous fight, John – we can change the gun laws in the country, but only if you fight with us today. Jim and Sarah Brady would be so proud that we're finally about to defeat the NRA forever and even prouder of you for making it happen!
