2. DSA Contingent: Oppose White Supremacy at Stone Mountain

On August 15th, 2020, a coalition of assorted white supremacists, Neo-Nazis, Neoconfederates and III% militia groups are holding a rally to “defend Stone Mountain”. Metro Atlanta DSA endorses the coalition efforts being organized by FLOWER to counter-protest this event, and we will be organizing a DSA contingent.

3. Proposed Bylaw Changes for the August Meeting

Over the past few months, many members have raised concerns about our bylaws being outdated and inflexible. The Executive Committee has tried to synthesize ideas from a number of members, including feedback from a Member Forum on Chapter Structure that was held in early July. The EC is now proposing a comprehensive overhaul of the chapter bylaws that will be heard at the August Meeting. You can read the proposed changes here.

These changes are largely based on the work of a Bylaws Review committee that was created in Fall 2019. There was an effort to update the bylaws in the February meeting, but the proposal was tabled, and then the Coronavirus pandemic started. The new proposal is different and has new changes, including expanding leadership from 7 to 9 officers, replacing the Chair with two indirectly elected Co-Chairs, clarifying that membership meetings hold political authority over the officers, and more. This proposal also reduces the length of the bylaws by almost 40% and simplifies the language significantly.

There will be a Restructuring Forum for members to discuss these proposed bylaw changes, ask questions, and give feedback on the proposal. The forum will be held on Wednesday, August 12th at 7pm ET.
