Our Revolution HQ is proud that we helped Cori Bush defeat a powerful political dynasty in St. Louis in her bid for the US House! Our Revolution Missouri members made nearly 30,000 voter contacts through phone calls, texts and emails, putting Cori on top in a tight race.

Also in Missouri, Our Revolution St. Louis supported a slate of local candidates who won their primaries and are headed to the general election!

Our Revolution HQ-endorsed candidate Rashida Tlaib resoundingly defeated her primary challenger in her bid for re-election to Congress from Michigan. “Our Squad is big. It’s here to stay, and it’s only getting bigger.” Several down-ballot progressive candidates who were endorsed by Our Revolution Michigan also won their races, including Christopher Slat (Michigan House, D-17), Will Garcia, (Michigan House, D-57), Andrea Garrison, (Michigan House, D-85), Nick Roumel, (Washtenaw County Circuit Judge), and Eli Savit (Washtenaw County Prosecutor).

“The progressive wing of the party is ascendant.” Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese summed up the pivotal wins in Tuesday’s primaries that ranged from red states to blue states, on the coast and in the heartland, up and down the ballot. Even in majority-red Missouri, voters passed a Medicaid expansion ballot measure, showing that progressive policies are universally popular. The wins, he said, send a clear message to the establishment: ”The base doesn’t want incrementalism.”

In Washington, Medicare for All champion US Rep. Pramila Jayapal overwhelmingly won her race for re-election to Congress, while Our Revolution Washington member Mariana Everson will advance to the general election in November in her bid to represent LD19 in the State House.

Our Revolution Arizona & Progressive Democrats of America joined forces to help our endorsed candidates win in Arizona. US Rep. Raul Grijalva, State Sen. Martin Quezada, and Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes all won their primaries and will compete in the general election in November.

Close one in Tennessee! Our Revolution Tennessee helped first-time candidate Keeda Haynes garner nearly 40% of the vote in her bid to unseat DINO incumbent Jim Cooper in Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District. The Tennessean wrote that Keeda showed “surprising strength,” especially considering Cooper raised about seven times more money. Like Marie Newman, Cori Bush, and others who won the second time around, we look forward to working with Keeda for 2022!

ELECTIONS THIS WEEK!
The Vermont primary is happening on Tuesday, and we have a large slate of nationally-endorsed candidates, including Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, who is running for Governor. You can check out the rest of our endorsements below.

With the Minnesota primary also next Tuesday, Our Revolution Minnesota is working hard to get out the vote for Our Revolution HQ-endorsed candidates: Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a member of the “squad” who is running for re-election to her seat, AK Hassan, who is running for Minneapolis City Council, and Omar Fateh, who is taking on a three-term incumbent to represent district 62 in the state Senate.

Our Revolution Missouri led a winning campaign to pass a ballot measure which will expand access to healthcare to over 230,000 people, protect thousands of frontline healthcare jobs, and help keep rural hospitals open. With the passage of Amendment 2, Missouri becomes the 39th state (including DC) to opt to expand Medicaid, and demonstrates that progressive healthcare policies can win in red states.

VICTORY! After forcing Rep. Frank Pallone to hold a Medicare for All hearing in Congress, Our Revolution Monmouth worked to make the Red Bank Borough Council the first in the state of New Jersey to approve a resolution supporting the Medicare For All Act of 2019.

VICTORY! A week after Red Bank passed a resolution in support of Medicare for All, Our Revolution Essex County pushed to make Maplewood, New Jersey the first town in the county to support Medicare for All.
Our Revolution HQ has worked in coalition with Public Citizen and other progressive organizations to win Medicare for All resolutions in Indiana, Florida, California and other states. We can now add New Jersey to that list.

VICTORY! Our Revolution Cincinnati organized a rally outside the Cincinnati Public Schools district office to demand that in-person schooling not begin until it’s safe for all students. After the rally, CPS announced its decision to move to distance learning for the first five weeks of the upcoming school year “out of concern for the health and safety of our students and employees.”

Our Revolution Board Chair Larry Cohen writes about the resolution to extend key party reforms into 2024, which was passed last week by the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee on a vote of 173-0. “The unanimous vote should be a wake-up call about what’s possible in terms of building and changing the Democratic Party.” Larry emphasizes the importance of party building and rules reforms, work that is an essential part of Our Revolution’s mission. “We need to stay focused on issues, not just candidates. But just as importantly, we must focus on the rules that regulate, and often control, the outcome.”

During the August Statewide Organizing Meeting, Our Revolution Indiana focused on efforts to transform the local Democratic Party. Josh Peters, former Executive Director of the Marion County Democratic Party, talked about how establishment Democrats are working to keep progressives from gaining power, and shared an open letter to Democrats across the state he drafted to try to put a stop to it. “They did more than put their thumb on the scale, they pounded their fist on the scale. The lack of accountability and cronyism is a problem. I couldn’t sit back and keep my mouth shut.”

Our Revolution California leader Brandon Harami has been elected to serve as interim Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party’s Progressive Caucus. Brandon has helped elect Bay Area progressives and build a more progressive Democratic Party. Congratulations, Brandon!
