Adopt Dixon: Treeline Treenut Cheese presents Dixon cow

Dear John,

For male calves born into the dairy industry, a glass of milk can mean the difference between life and death.

Take Dixon, for example. Prior to his rescue, Dixon lived on a California dairy that gave away “surplus” male calves for free. Had it not been for a kind rescuer, Dixon would likely have been killed for veal or cheap beef—all because boys can’t produce milk for the industry.

Like people, cows must be pregnant or nursing to lactate; they don’t simply “make milk,” as many of us grow up believing. And their milk serves a purpose, just as human’s milk does: to nourish their babies. Sadly, calves don’t get much time to nurse, if at all; farmers remove these babies from their moms so that humans can consume their milk instead.

At this point, male calves often face the slaughter line, while the females enter milk production. Although cows can live upwards of 20 years at Sanctuary, few dairy cows make it past age six before their milk production declines and they, too, go to slaughter.

Thankfully, there are other options.

For a one-time donation of $35, you can symbolically “adopt” Dixon through Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Farm Animal Program. Your gift will help protect cows like Dixon from exploitation and slaughter, by providing a life of peace and Sanctuary for these dairy industry survivors.

And, from now through August 31, Treeline Treenut Cheese will match all adoption gifts dollar-for-dollar—up to $10,000!

Adopt Dixon

With your contribution, you’ll join a team of loving “co-parents” who make Dixon’s care at Sanctuary possible. In gratitude, we’ll send you a digital adoption certificate featuring Dixon, which you can print for yourself or forward on to the cow-lovers in your life.

We are grateful to collaborate for the fifth year in a row with this plant-based, non-dairy cheese producer on behalf of dairy survivors like Dixon. Thanks to them, your gift today will go TWICE as far in changing the tide for farm animals.

At Farm Sanctuary, Dixon serves as an ambassador for his species. By meeting and befriending rescued survivors like him, more people are seeing cows as individuals—not commodities or byproducts—and ditching dairy for good.
