Hi there,
This is me and Julie Chismar, my high school econ teacher.
Of course, Ms. Chismar was a lot more than a teacher of a single class. She’s someone who’s helped educate me my whole life. I look back and see moments where she helped open the world for me, calling on me to think bigger about the world and my place in it.
When I first ran for mayor, she was one of the first people I told. And she went on to volunteer on both of my mayoral campaigns. Now, she’s in the office a couple times a week volunteering with our race for President.
I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Ms. Chismar and the other teachers who dedicate their lives and careers to teaching kids like me. The great ones teach the facts, theories, and equations, of course. But they also do something even more powerful: they instill belief.
Thanks for letting me share a little bit about Ms. Chismar. I’m eager to read about the educator who has made an impact in your life.
And I couldn’t send this note without also saying how proud I am to watch my husband Chasten encourage and inspire so many kids in our community. He has that same special ability to help kids believe in themselves.
Thanks to Ms. Chismar, Chasten, and all the teachers out there during this back-to-school season.
