Dear John,

I feel almost silly writing this, because when I get an “end-of-quarter
deadline” request for a donation (they’re filling my inbox as you read
this), my eyes start to roll.

What’s different about the end-of-quarter versus any other day of the
month?

I can’t speak to all the candidates and campaigns that are bombarding your
inbox right now.

But I can tell you that in Powered by People we have a budget that
dictates what I can spend on organizers, supporting volunteers, traveling
— in other words, doing the work behind reaching, registering and turning
out the voters we need to win political power in Texas.

If we don’t meet that budget, I can’t hire more organizers (we have 13
right now covering the entire state — that means one organizer is covering
the entire Panhandle, North Texas and West Texas just short of El Paso
county. Imagine what we could do with 20 organizers!). It’s all a function
of money. The more I raise, the more I can do.

Remember, we turned donations like yours in 2024 into one of the most
successful turnout pilots in the country.

Young Texans that we met on campuses across the state — listening to them,
registering them and staying in touch with them throughout the election —
turned out at a rate of over 79%! To put that in context, young voter
turnout in Texas outside of our program was 37%.
