John,
My friend and colleague John Lewis was instrumental in the historic passage of the Voting Rights Act, which ensured that all Americans could exercise their right to vote – no matter their race or religion.
But ever since the Supreme Court gutted this landmark legislation in 2013, the GOP has taken every opportunity to enact voter suppression tactics across the country – from strict voter ID laws to purging voter rolls to shutting down polling stations. These despicable tactics make it harder for everyone to vote, but they especially impact people of color.
If we don’t restore the VRA, millions of Americans could lose their voice in the most important elections of our lifetime. So I’m counting on you to join me in honoring the legacy of John Lewis by calling on Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act immediately. Will you be one of the 500 members of this team to sign the petition by 11:59 p.m. tonight?
Sign the petition to demand Congress restore the Voting Rights Act before tonight’s deadline. This is a critical step in making sure every American can be heard at the ballot box in November.
