On July 17, our nation lost a true American hero, Representative John Lewis. It was an honor to serve alongside Rep. Lewis, whose commitment to dismantle hatred and oppression inspired me and generations of Americans.

Throughout my time in Congress, I was lucky enough to march with Rep. Lewis to protest the detention of immigrant children, march with him across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to commemorate the Selma Civil Rights Marches and serve with him on the Committee on Ways and Means. He uplifted all those around him and created lasting change in our country, from the Nashville sit-ins to the March on Washington.

During this pandemic, I've split my time between voting on critical legislation in Washington, D.C. and helping those most affected by COVID-19 in Los Angeles.

In addition to working with local community groups and service organizations, I've been conducting numerous virtual meetings, including an event with local Korean American students to discuss anti-Asian bias during this crisis and joining Women in Media to talk about their mentor program to promote inclusion in the entertainment industry.

I'm also thankful for all the opportunities I've had to safely help our neighbors and support our communities, including organizing care packages with the Anderson Munger Family YMCA and going door-to-door in Boyle Heights, Pico Union, and Westlake to spread the word about the 2020 Census.
