Over the last couple of months, we've been collecting signatures for our
petition to the U.S. Congress to protect nurses and our patients during
COVID-19. We were able to gather more than 500,000 signatures from
supporters like you, and just delivered the signed petition to Congress!
Thank you for standing with us in this fight to protect ourselves and our
patients.

Now, we're keeping the pressure on and calling our senators to take
immediate action on two things that will save nurses' and patients' lives:
one, including the OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard to protect frontline
workers, and two, using the Defense Production Act to increase production
and distribution of the PPE we desperately need in the next COVID-19
relief bill.

[ [link removed] ]Will you take a couple of minutes now to call your senators and tell
them to #ProtectNurses and our patients?

Call your senators ยป

Here's an example script you can use when you reach a staff member or a
voicemail box (be sure to mention if you are a nurse or health care
worker!):

"Hello, my name is ______ and I'm a constituent of yours from
Washington. I'm calling to urge you to ensure that the next COVID-19
relief bill includes a mandate for two critical measures to protect nurses
and other frontline health care workers, who are still not receiving the
PPE they need to safely care for COVID-19 patients.

First, we must have an OSHA emergency temporary standard to protect
workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, we must enact the full use
of the Defense Production Act to rapidly scale up domestic production of
PPE as a part of creating a comprehensive, transparent medical supply
chain system.

Both of these priorities are included in the HEROES Act, and I urge you to
ensure they are included in the fourth stimulus package negotiated in the
Senate. Thank you."

It has now been months since the House passed the HEROES Act, but the
Senate has yet to act. Passing this act would provide nurses and other
health care workers with the PPE and workplace protections we need to
protect our patients.

The coronavirus pandemic is only getting worse, and nurses and patients
will be in even more danger the longer we work without these protections.
We need to come together and keep up the pressure to force the Senate to
act and get nurses and frontline health care workers the protections we
should have had from the start.

[ [link removed] ]It only takes a couple minutes to call. Can we count on you to
make the call to your senators now?

Thank you for taking action,

National Nurses United
