The deadline for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release the children in their facilities has come and gone.

It is more clear than ever that the Trump Administration is using the pandemic as an excuse to advance its dangerous and hateful anti-immigrant agenda.

Nearly 200 children — 83 of whom are under the age of five — remain in ICE custody, despite an order from U.S. District Court Judge Dolly Gee demanding their release.

ICE has the power to release these children and their families together. It is choosing not to despite the fact that it is jeopardizing the safety and wellbeing of hundreds of vulnerable children.

Will you hold the Trump Administration accountable now and demand it immediately comply with Judge Gee’s order and release these families without delay?

Children and families are being held at unlicensed detention facilities in Texas and Pennsylvania. Judge Gee’s order to release the children came after news of COVID-19 outbreaks at two of these facilities.

Even though it is now legally compelled to release children held for 20 days or more, the Trump Administration continues to subject children to long-term harm in these detention centers instead of releasing them with their parents to safe living conditions.

It bears repeating: ICE has the authority to immediately release these families right now. Not doing so during a deadly pandemic is cruel and dangerous. Instead of focusing on keeping everyone safe during the pandemic, the government is deporting children, exposing them to COVID-19, separating families, shutting down the asylum system, and making cuts to legal immigration — putting millions at risk.

This must end. Demand the government release children and their families together immediately. There is no other option.

The President has made his priorities clear: he is using this global health emergency to advance his hateful anti-immigrant agenda and hurting immigrant children on purpose. All of us must speak out and demand urgent action from the government and those in power who can help immigrant families.
