GRACIAS BASMATTIE !!
You have been such a dream to work with these past weeks as being part of our virtual mentorship program!
With COVID-19 occurring we had to improvise and coordinate a new program for our scheduled interns for Summer '20. Basmattie has been so patient, helpful and understanding with the process which transcends into her work with helping her first-grader mentee, Alexandra!
Thank you Basmattie for being a great role model to Alexandra and putting her favorite Frozen 2 song while you guys work together (:

Thank you so much to our Day Labor Outreach coordinator Osvaldo and to Tanya for supporting 51 day laborers this past weekend! They visited two locations and responsibly distributed care packages including lunches, hand sanitizer, and socks. They also provided emotional support to the workers!
This pandemic has hit our day laborers especially hard, and we are grateful to our team for continuing to support these workers. COVID-19 has reduced the demand for work, and we have seen a significant drop in the number of workers waiting for jobs. Day laborers’ source of income has suffered greatly with the reduction of traffic throughout home improvement stores, and throughout the county in general. We continue to try to find the best ways to support them whether it be through free remote legal clinics or by donating items they find useful.
Thanks to Osvaldo’s work on the field, we are able to better cater to the needs of our community. we will continue to adapt and find ways to better support our day laborers. We thank Osvaldo's leadership for always approaching this community with care and respect and advocating for their needs.
Interested in donating? Visit our link in bio or email us at [email protected] to donate assembled care packages with: masks, neon t-shirts and hand sanitizers.

Today we are reflecting on this past weekend, and the large amount of water, food and other supplies our team left that were consumed by those who needed it.
From the mountains to the desert, our two teams caught a break in the heat (it only peaked around 110° in the warmest area) and were able to use this slightly cooler temperature to go down deeper and more challenging routes to get the supplies where they needed to go.
We thank everyone who continues to come out week after week, to face the heat head on and the teamwork it takes to get everyone back safely.
Since the temperatures are still extreme, we continue to limit water drops to experienced Water Drop volunteers. The safety of our team is our priority. Thank you all for your patience. As soon as we can safely take new volunteers we will. For the meanwhile, sharing posts and making donations allow us to continue our work, and be efficient as possible.
For any questions about Water Drops or our Water Drops during Covid, reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, [email protected].
Thank you for your continued support!

We are so excited to share with you all some news about Volviendo a la Patria, one of the shelters we support. They have started building bunk beds for our migrant families!
Because of your support, our friends in Tijuana now will have somewhere to rest and lay their heads. The direction at this shelter with the help of Border Angels, has donated and built the framework from scratch.
We love to see how far all of our projects have come, and how pieces of metal help turning a shelter into a HOME. As always, we are grateful to provide our other shelters, such as Roca de Salvación, with another month of rent, utilities and a kitchen full of groceries.
We are also sending Pastor Salvador (pictured) and all of our migrant families and directors a big virtual hug, and sending all of you one as well for making this possible. We hope in the near future we are able to visit and see for ourselves!

Familias Reunidas
Bond Program

We are so happy to share with you another recipient of our Familias Reunidas Bond Program, Miguel Angel. He is a 22-year-old individual detained in Adelanto ICE Detention for 6 months, and was not able to see his family that entire time. He is finally able to be reunited with his aunt, uncle and cousin.
We cannot thank all of you enough for your continued support and helping us bond Miguel Angel, as his uncles could not pay his bond and both of his parents have unfortunately passed away. As previously mentioned, Adelanto is known for the neglect of its inhabitants, as well as the toxic and harmful “sanitation” practices. It is heartbreaking to us that this country’s inhumane and racist policies kept such a young and beautiful spirit with his whole future ahead of him, incarcerated for half a year. We hope our work, our voices, and your kindness, lead by example to both free as many individuals as possible and to end the laws that perpetuate these practices.
Let these stories serve as a reminder of all the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and community members waiting in such conditions in detention, simply for seeking a place or a part in this country. Miguel Angel represents so many others being subject to these inhumane policies and we must not forget the urgency of getting everyone we can out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center. This pandemic continues to be unforgiving, and we will not allow any more lives lost.
Again, we thank you for your support and ask you to continue to help us make sure our folks are #FreeAndAlive.

Thank you so much to Jonathan Shulman and La Jolla Country Day Schools’s Center for Excellence in Citizenship for hosting us via zoom last week for their Global Leaders Summer Program!
We are so happy to partner with learning opportunities such as theirs which enables students to engage in very needed discussions for so many important topics, in this case the border and immigration.
We are grateful to be able to help promote a culture of love while acceptance and learning from so many eager young winds.
Would you like Border Angels to present for your class/event/organization?

JULY 30, 2020
" The Supreme Court last month blocked the Trump administration's attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. DACA recipients celebrated, and many were anticipating the addition of new recipients to DACA this year.
But now the administration has announced new restrictions on the program, saying they won't admit new applicants and they'll limit DACA renewals to one year, instead of two.
Dulce Garcia is a DACA recipient and San Diego immigration attorney who was a plaintiff in the lawsuits before the Supreme Court.
She told KPBS that the new memo by the administration is another attack against the program.
"It's applying burdens for those of us already renewing, it's outright denying new applications, it's making it nearly impossible for us to travel abroad with advance parole, so this is essentially a dismantling of the DACA program."
Garcia says the battle over DACA will continue in the courts."

With our new Green Cards for Kids program, we are so lucky to be able to work with immigration attorney Fabiola Navarro who will be representing these children.
It is crucial that we help these children as they have already suffered enough abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.
With your continued support, we can help pay for the legal representation these children deserve in this critical time of their lives.
Please consider donating! No amount is too small!

WE NEED YOUR HELP:
Our friends at Refugee Health Alliance are one of the only organizations providing medical care for migrants and asylum seekers in Tijuana.
Health services for asylum-seeking refugees have nearly come to a stop as a result of the Covid-19 travel restrictions. Local Tijuana clinics offering medical services to refugees have closed.
U.S. based clinicians and doctors are no longer able to travel to Tijuana to meet with those who are in dire need of medical and mental health support. While migrants have access to hospitals in Mexico, it is financially difficult and risky to do so. Many migrants are persecuted by gangs who target them outside of the shelters.
How can you help?
You can donate tablets that will allow migrant shelters to directly connect with medical and mental health providers via videoconferencing. YOU can help the 850+ refugees in need in Tijuana.
Mail in your donation today to:
1680 Broadway, Ste. A

Despite the growing challenges of this pandemic, Border Angels remains determined to protect and support the community we have pledged to serve. Even though we are currently unable to accept physical donations, we are always accepting monetary donations to support:
1. Our Shelter Aid Program❤️: Especially now that we are unable to receive these items, we need your help to provide funds for groceries, hygiene products, utility bills, rent, clothes, etc.!
2. Familias Reunidas Bond Program👨👩👧: Given the severity of this outbreak, we NEED to get as many people out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center as we can. With your help we can post bond for more individuals! (Link in highlights under Bond Program)
3. Water Drop Program💧: Even after having to postpone public water drops, our team is still constantly in the desert scouting and dropping the supplies necessary for survival. Their work never stops because the need never stops.
Thank you for your continued support.🖤🦋
