As many of you know, the federal government’s $600 weekly boost to unemployment benefits expired on July 31st, with no action taken to renew the legislation. The House passed the HEROES Act months ago, which would provide funding to protect essential workers, support unemployed workers, provide funds for schools, colleges, and daycare centers to safely reopen or adapt, allow for student debt relief, and so much more. Meanwhile, the Senate is embroiled in a power struggle, refusing to pass the HEROES Act or any legislation addressing the urgent needs of everyday Americans. I can hear the desperation from my constituents, who are struggling to make ends meet and are relying on federal and state assistance programs.
