Dear Friend,
I wanted to provide an update on the work I am doing in the House of Representatives to represent the great people of Maryland's First Congressional District and to advance commonsense, conservative legislation in Washington, D.C.
House Pushes for Full Department of Homeland Security Funding as Senate Strips Key Protections
This week, the House passed the Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act, continuing efforts to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security. House Democrats once again voted against the measure. DHS personnel have continued working without certainty of full funding, and they should not be left in that position. Today, the Senate sent back a version of the bill to the House that falls short, stripping funding for Homeland Security Investigations, which targets sex traffickers, and failing to fully fund Border Patrol. That is not acceptable, and partial funding is not enough. Marylanders rely on a secure border, strong enforcement, and agencies that are fully equipped to keep people safe, and anything less puts our safety at risk. House Republicans are pushing to restore this funding and get a fully funded DHS bill across the finish line. President Trump also took decisive action this week, issuing an emergency order to ensure TSA agents are paid and operations continue without disruption.
Protecting Maryland Jobs and American Property Abroad
This week, I voted in strong support of the Defending American Property Abroad Act, a bill to hold foreign governments accountable when they seize American-owned assets. That matters here at home—Maryland’s economy depends on strong ports, global trade, and fair access to international markets. This legislation gives the United States the authority to block vessels that use ports or terminals taken from U.S. owners from entering our ports, including places like the Port of Baltimore. It sends a clear message: if you take American property, you will not benefit from access to the American market. For Maryland workers, businesses, and those who rely on our ports and shipping industry, this is about fairness, protecting jobs, and making sure American companies are not pushed aside overseas without consequences. |
