John -- The magnitude of Tuesday’s primary election results is still sinking in. Brand New Congress powerhouse, Cori Bush, has won in a historic victory against an entrenched 20-year incumbent who was not showing up for the people of MO-01.
Cori isn’t a career politician. She’s a mother, a nurse, a Ferguson activist. She has been on the ground for years, showing up, standing with protestors to demand criminal justice reform.
We need fewer politicians and more activists in Congress. Across the country there are thousands of leaders calling for change. Right now, Congress isn’t reflective of the momentum in this country. We need to elect more representatives who aren’t afraid to make “good trouble.”
We must conquer the disconnect that representatives usually have from regular working people. From marginalized communities. From those who live the struggle everyday. That means we need BRAND NEW leadership based within the progressive movement.
And our movement is here to stay.
We are going to elect more community organizers like Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Cori Bush! There are many coalitions in Congress focused on lobbyists and corporations. We are building a coalition that’s focused on the people, and it needs to grow!
We are down to the wire for more progressive campaigns like Ihssane Leckey in Massachusetts 5th, and Jen Perelman in Florida’s 23rd, taking on notorious establishment darling Debbie Wasserman Schultz. And SIX candidates challenging Republicans in the general.
If you are able, can you contribute $20.20 today to help us continue the 2020 shakeup and expand the Squad for the people of this country?
Yours for the revolution,
Zeynab Day,
Brand New Congress
