CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHT
BLACK LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATES
The Republican Party of New Mexico is running a record 101 candidates for the New Mexico State House and State Senate. These candidates represent the diversity of our great state and highlight their commitment to improve New Mexico for all New Mexicans. They are all working hard to turn New Mexico red this November.

JANE POWDRELL-CULBERT FOR HOUSE DISTRICT 44

Honorable Jane Powdrell-Culbert, a Republican and a native New Mexican, was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives in 2002. She is the first African-American in the state’s history to be elected on the Republican ticket. She is now serving her 9th term. Representative Powdrell-Culbert served as the Chairwoman, Business & Employment Committee, and the New Mexico Finance Authority from 2015-2020. She has served on numerous boards and commissions for various organizations and the State of New Mexico. She also served as Executive Director, New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women. Powdrell-Culbert is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, with a degree in Recreation Programs and Administration; and Public Administration. Representative Powdrell-Culbert was a single parent who raised her three nieces after the death of their mother. She has been married to Colonel Clarence Culbert, Jr. for 29 years. Colonel Culbert retired from the US Army in 2005 with over 28 years of
distinguished military service.

ANTOINETTE BERNICE TAFT FOR HOUSE DISTRICT 16

An educator, an advocate, and a finance professional, Candidate Antoinette Bernice Taft resides in Albuquerque in State House District 16. She has called Albuquerque home for the past 12 years. California born, but raised in a military family, Candidate Taft first lived in Albuquerque during middle school when her father was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in the 1980’s. Several duty stations and miles later, Taft chose to return to New Mexico as an adult to raise her own family. She is the mother of two children and fosters three amazing kids who bring such delight to the family. As a proud daughter of public servants and entrepreneurs who modeled a commitment to hard work, community investment, and family, Ms. Taft has a dynamic passion for public service and securing a prosperous community for the success of EVERY child. ADELIOUS STITH FOR HOUSE DISTRICT 29

Adelious D. Stith is a concerned citizen who will provide a voice for the people of House District 29. Adelious believes government should be fiscally responsible, protect the rights of the people, and function in the best interest of all citizens. Adelious will stand in support of increased mental health treatment, veterans, and removing politics and unions out of the educational process.
