Latest Executive decisions announced

First Minister Arlene Foster speaking after yesterday's meeting of the Executive.
DUP Leader Arlene Foster MLA announced a number of decisions taken by the NI Executive following yesterday's meeting.

These include:
  • Wearing of face masks in enclosed indoor spaces will be mandatory from Monday.
  • All pupils will return to school on a full-time basis from the start of term.
  • The opening of pubs/bars which do not serve food has been paused until 1st September.
  • A cross-departmental high street taskforce will look at issues affecting businesses.
  • Dates have been agreed for the re-opening of theatres and concert halls along with the return of spectators to indoor sports venues.

Also this week the First Minister:
  • Paid tribute to former SDLP Leader John Hume who passed away
  • Had a constructive meeting with Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Michael Gove in Hillsborough on trade issues and the NI protocol.
  • Met with traders in Dungannon to discuss issues they face.
  • Reiterated that the principle of consent determines Northern Ireland's place within the United Kingdom following comments from the Taoiseach.

Also this week:

  • DAERA Minister Edwin Poots visited the north coast to see how £2.7million of funding from his department was helping revitalise rural communities.
     
  • Economy Minister Diane Dodds announced 230 new jobs in Belfast.
     
  • Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart highlighted the number of missed outpatent appointments in Northern Ireland.
     
  • DAERA Minister Edwin Poots announced a £150,000 water quality improvement initiative.
     
  • East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell highlighted the importance of the COVID-19 tracking app and called for publication of alerts it has dealt with.
     
  • Economy Minister Diane Dodds welcomed guidance for the hospitality sector on maintaining records of staff, customers and visitors to ensure contact tracing.
     
  • Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart pressed Michael Gove on government funding for NI Centenary celebrations next year.
