Jack,
Leading the Marquette University Law School Poll three times in a row
feels pretty good — we're not going to lie. But a poll number is just a
snapshot. We wanted to understand why we're winning and what it tells us
about how we finish this race.
So we dug into the crosstabs. Here's what we learned:
1. We're running on exactly what Wisconsin voters care about.
Marquette asked voters what concerns them most: inflation (75% very
concerned), health insurance (63%), jobs (60%), housing (57%), public
schools (52%).
Now look at our platform: universal childcare. Paid family leave.
Expanding BadgerCare. Fully funding public schools. A public bank for
affordable capital. Taxing the ultra-wealthy to cut property taxes for
regular folks.
2. Independents are looking more blue than red — and winning them is key
to winning this election.
With just a few exceptions, independent voters are siding with Democrats
on virtually every major issue in this poll. 73% disapprove of the attacks
on Iran. 71% back the Supreme Court ruling against Trump on tariffs. 66%
disapprove of the job Trump is doing.
Plus, Fran is the only Democratic candidate with a net positive
favorability rating among independent voters.
3. Union members are choosing the candidate who's lived the fight.
Among union members who've made their choice in this primary — and nearly
three-quarters already have — a majority (56%) are going with Fran. Her
closest opponent is 21 points behind, and nobody else cracks double
digits.
The people who organize for a living are choosing the bartender and line
cook who built her career in kitchens. Not career politicians.
4. Working-class Wisconsinites have turned on Trump.
Among households making under $40,000 a year, Trump's disapproval is at
66%. Only 31% approve. 59% of all Wisconsin voters say his policies are
making inflation worse — up 6 points in a single month. 60% say tariffs
are hurting Wisconsin farmers. Only 16% say they're helping.
He promised to fight for working people. The people who fell for it are
waking up.
5. Fran built the cross-party coalition everyone else is still looking
for.
69% of Wisconsinites say data center costs outweigh the benefits — 62% of
Republicans, 69% of independents, 77% of Democrats. Fran called for a
moratorium in January, the first candidate in the race to do it.
61% disapprove of the attacks on Iran. Among independents, it's 73%. Fran
opposed the strikes from day one.
And here’s a bonus finding: 72% of Wisconsin still hasn't met Fran.
This is where you come in. We’re asking you to help us make those
introductions.
Reaching voters costs a truly insane amount of money. And in a seven-way
primary where we're the only ones doing this without corporate cash, every
dollar matters.
