Hi John,
A few days ago, you may have received a mailer from the Center for Voter Information containing a prefilled absentee ballot application and prepaid postage return envelope. As many folks have pointed out, the destination address on the return envelope is wrong. It is incorrectly addressed to the Fairfax City Registrar, not the Fairfax County Registrar.
Our team has been working closely with our elected officials and the Democratic Party of Virginia to understand what happened and why. We were told that an issue with CVI's review process and printer resulted in over 450,000 Fairfax County residents receiving this faulty return envelope. There is no reason to believe at this point that this was done with malice or nefarious intent.
After some discussion, we've come to the conclusion that recipients of this letter have a few options to successfully request their ballot:
-
Save time and request a ballot online by going to the Virginia Board of Elections Citizen Portal and selecting "Apply to Vote by Mail."
-
Verify your information on the prefilled form, complete it, and you can mail it to the correct Registrar (Fairfax County Office of Elections, PO Box 10161, Fairfax, VA 22038).
Note, if you already mailed the application in the included envelope, the Fairfax City Registrar has confirmed with us that they will forward these applications to the County Registrar.
Please let us know if you have any questions. This mailer could not have come at a more inopportune time as we work to make sure this unprecedented election goes off without a hitch. Please help us in dispelling any misinformation regarding the vote by mail process and this mailer by letting your friends and neighbors know about the above options.
Thanks,
Bryan Graham
