A bright hot day at Texas State in San Marcos yesterday. No where I’d
rather be: 

We weren’t able to post up at the quad so didn’t get to see as many
people, but grateful for everyone we met, registered and are staying in
touch with going forward.

Alyssa, a freshman from Beaumont got her registration updated with us.
Told me about challenges back home that she’d like to improve — education,
lack of opportunity — and hopes that being more politically involved can
make it better. Also, gas. Costs her $41 for half a tank. That same amount
used to cover a full tank. She’s ready for change!

Met Jared from Dallas who is pursuing healthcare to be a family physician.
His dream is to set up in underserved communities and bring a team of
healthcare providers to give holistic care to anyone who needs it.

Destiny and Angel, first year roommates from Fort Worth, got registered
together.

Saw student body president Abby Myers, in charge!

Met a guy who told me he just feels like giving up. He clarified that he’s
not going to hurt himself, he means he just wants to give up on all of
this. He told me it seems like the people in power just keep getting
worse, more corrupt, more cruel and more powerful. What’s someone like him
going to be able to do about it?

I told him we’re in this together, and it’s not him it’s all of us doing
this together. I told him about Powered by People and our work registering
and staying in touch with this new generation of voters. If we keep it up
over the next 7 months, don’t give in to despair, keep this hope alive by
doing the work, we’re going to make it. I invited him to join us and help
with our work on campus and he said he would.

Talked to a woman from Venezuela who is a legal permanent resident but too
afraid to leave the area because of an ICE presence in Buda. Doesn’t want
to have to live in fear.

Diego told me he was getting registered because he knew it would make his
grandmother happy (it will).

Lesa took care of everyone, even brought Easter eggs which she gave away
at the end of her shift.
