This government shutdown is happening for one reason, and one reason only: Trump and MAGA Republicans refuse to even consider commonsense reforms to ICE. Even after ICE agents have killed numerous American citizens on our city streets. It’s unconscionable, and must be immediately reined in. But instead of coming to the table to end this lawlessness, Republicans are holding federal workers’ livelihoods hostage.

Now, these workers have gone five weeks without pay and regular families are forced to wade through the ensuing chaos at the airport.

To Donald Trump — and the entire Republican Party — federal workers are political pawns they can use to get their way. Not to Brittany Pettersen. That’s why she just signed a discharge petition to force a vote to pay TSA agents, FEMA workers, and Coast Guardsmen.
