Six Things You Need to Know About a COVID-19 Vaccine

By: Bruce Hausknecht

(Focus on the Family takes no position at this time on the use of COVID-19 vaccines, nor do we endorse any particular vaccine candidate. The use of a COVID-19 vaccine, when it becomes available, is a decision best left to individuals and families.)

Everyone wants the COVID-19 pandemic over and done with yesterday. We want life to go back to normal. And by “normal,” we mean a mask-less existence. No six feet of social distancing. No avoiding handshakes and hugs or singing in church. We’ve put a man on the moon, for goodness’ sake. Can’t we stop a tiny virus?

One of the ways America is rolling up its sleeves and tackling this extraordinary problem is in the search for an effective vaccine. And vaccines take time. There’s a lot of government “red tape” involved that is designed to protect lives by making sure that vaccines are safe as well as effective.

Here’s what you need to know about the search for a COVID-19 vaccine.

Congressional Report
New Congressional Report Provides the Good and Bad News on the State of the American Family
By: Glenn T. Stanton

A major congressional report on the state of the two-parent family has just been released and the numbers show a continued and troubling decline in the most important family well-being indicators. It comes from the Social Capital Project of the Senate Joint Economic Committee. The overall picture is not a bright one, but nor is it all bad news. The good news is that the U.S. divorce rate largely leveled off in the mid-1980s and has declined measurably in the last few years. As well, the number of children living with two parents is higher than most Americans would assume and this number has remained largely level for the past few years.

Overall, nearly half of all youth in America today will spend some part of their childhood living apart from at least one of their biological parents, whereas only one-third of children did so in the 1960s and less than a quarter did in the 1950s.

Female Athletes ‘Doxxed’
Female Athletes ‘Doxxed’ for Asking NCAA to Protect Women’s Sports – Here’s How You Can Help

By: Jeff Johnston

Outsports, an online, LGBT sports blog, published the names of 309 female athletes who signed a letter to the National College Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Board of Governors, asking them to protect women’s sports from transgender athletes – biological men who believe they are women.

The practice is known as “doxxing,” publishing names and private information for the purpose of shaming or harassing individuals.

The letter also asks the NCAA “to reject a recent call to boycott Idaho for passing its Fairness in Women’s Sports Act.” LGBT activists and their allies, in organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center and the American Civil Liberties Union, asked the NCAA to cancel any events scheduled in Idaho because the Fairness Act limits participation in girls’ and women’s sports to biological females.

Seattle Rioters Sue City
Seattle Rioters Sue City Because Police Countermeasures are Forcing Them to Buy Protective Gear
By: Bruce Hausknecht

If you believe a lawsuit recently filed against Seattle and its police department, the city’s officers are using teargas, “blast balls” and deploying “projectiles” against completely peaceful protestors, who are in some cases merely trying to flee the excessive display of force. The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is forcing these supposedly peaceful protestors to head to the local army/navy surplus store to purchase $400-$500 worth of protective gear so they can continue their law-abiding First Amendment behavior.

That, say the peaceful protestors, is allowing only the well-heeled among them to exercise their free speech rights, which allegedly violates the First Amendment.

On the day in question, July 25, 5000 protestors took to the streets in support of Black Lives Matter and to “demand an end to police brutality.” By the time they were done, 59 police officers were treated for injuries from rocks and bottles and other projectiles hurled at them under the guise of free speech. Rioters blew a hole in a police precinct building and looted, vandalized and destroyed numerous businesses in the area. Forty-seven arrests were made.

Pro-Life Advocates Arrested
Pro-Life Advocates Arrested for Writing in Chalk ‘Black Preborn Lives Matter’ Outside Planned Parenthood
By: Brittany Raymer

In Washington D.C., members of Students for Life were arrested for trying to write “Black Preborn Lives Matter” in chalk on the sidewalk outside a Planned Parenthood, despite the fact that “Black Lives Matter” and “Defund the Police” were painted on the streets in the city without reprisal.

Do Americans have the right to paint slogans on the street? It appears so after several cities have allowed activists to paint “Black Lives Matter” in prominent locations, including on 16th Street NW blocks from the White House and right outside the Trump Tower in New York City.

However, the pro-life movement has not been extended the same courtesy.

Students for Life planned a demonstration outside a local Planned Parenthood location with the intent of painting the message “Black Preborn Lives Matter” on the street. They didn’t get the opportunity.
