This week, InSight Crime delved into how courts hold politicians to account in the region as Colombia's Supreme Court placed former President Álvaro Uribe under house arrest for alleged witness tampering while a court in Honduras unraveled the country's biggest anti-corruption success.
Elsewhere, we looked at whether the capture of the top gasoline trafficker in Mexico, alias "El Marro," will really make a dent in the trade, how Venezuelan smugglers are profiting off humanitarian aid, and why the coronavirus is good for illegal gamblers.

But this capture threatens to undo the progress made against oil theft and may not quell violence in the country’s most violent state for long.
Originally made up of Guanajuato oil thieves who banded together ([link removed]) in order to resist the encroachment of the Jalisco Cartel New Generation ([link removed]) (Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación — CJNG), the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel (CSRL) is somewhat of an outlier in Mexico’s criminal landscape.

What We do ([link removed])
[link removed]
InSight Crime was cited more than 30 times in a recent US Congressional Research Service (CRS) report ([link removed]) on Mexico’s drug trafficking groups, its criminal landscape, and the evolution of Mexican organized crime. The CRS – a resource on Capitol Hill for more than a century – provides impartial, on-demand research and analysis to House and Senate members. While InSight Crime is regularly cited in major media outlets, our work also drives policy discussions within governments, think tanks and academia.
