U.S. Congressman Steve Stivers
Developing our Local Economy

This summer I have had the opportunity to meet with folks throughout Ohio's 15th District and I witnessed many wins for our community and nation. I am impressed by everything happening across the district: from new businesses being open to new jobs being created, great things are happening in OH-15.

Fostering Growth in Women-Owned Businesses
I recently had the opportunity to meet with female entrepreneurs in Upper Arlington. I appreciated the chance to hear about their thoughts on tax credits for small businesses and many other issues they face every day. At the roundtable, pictured above, we discussed the challenges workers face including childcare, transportation, and housing and the impact it has on hiring for businesses like theirs. I was proud to support the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act because, in addition to wins for small businesses, it expanded the child tax credit for the working families who need it most.

Magna International Groundbreaking
More jobs. This is the news that all Americans want to hear. Thanks to tax reform and deregulation efforts, companies like Magna International are investing in our communities because we have made our economy competitive again. This past month, I spoke at the Magna groundbreaking ceremony in Lancaster. This new facility will add 300 jobs to our community. It is imperative we continue unleashing the potential of American workers.

Macy's Backstage Opening
Also new to Ohio’s 15th District is Macy’s Backstage. This new facility will act as a distribution center and add at least 400 jobs to our community. At the grand opening, pictured above, I spoke on the positive impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This legislation, that I supported, continues to help businesses like Macy’s use their savings under a fair and simple tax code to reinvest in their businesses and create new jobs.

Preparing for the Future
We need to prepare for the jobs of the future and how Artificial Intelligence is going to play into that. At the Artificial Intelligence Roundtable recently, pictured above, I had the opportunity to hear from experts about various solutions to prepare for the future and best handle this new force in our lives. I think we should always be looking for new, innovative ways to better align workforce programs to train and educate people so that they can be successful, today and in the future.

Furthering our Local Business Community
At my Hocking County Business Roundtable, we had a productive conversation on the most important issues facing our local business community. It was valuable to hear the issues faced by these business owners and the policies they think will help their businesses and the economy. One of the main topics we discussed was the importance of career and technical education. Even as unemployment is at record lows, I know that it's difficult to find folks who have the necessary skills for these jobs. Career and technical education (CTE) programs are valuable resources for our communities that will specifically prepare our workforce to thrive in the future.

I always appreciate having the opportunity to hear from constituents about the issues they are concerned about. If you would like to share your perspective, please call my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-2015, my Hilliard office at (614) 771-4968, my Lancaster office at (740) 654-2654, or my Wilmington office at (937) 283-7049.
