PFAW Member,

The census helps decide how Congressional representation is assigned and
how states get funding for everything from education to infrastructure.

And the Trump administration is trying to shortchange the process and fail
to count every American.

[ [link removed] ]Add your name to our petition urging the Senate to pass the House
approved measures extending the deadline and ensuring the Census Bureau
has the funds they need to complete an accurate census!! >>

Because of the pandemic, self-response rates to the census are at an
alarming low. And instead of ensuring every person is counted, as is
constitutionally mandated, the Trump administration wants to close the
census early.

This would result in a dramatic under-counting of all Americans, but would
most likely seriously impact resource allocation to already
under-resourced communities. Communities that have historically been
marginalized and are consequently harder to reach with the census – Native
Americans, low-income people, non-native English speakers, immigrants, and
people experiencing homelessness – are likely to be under counted and as a
result, continue to receive proportional and equitable funding and
resources.

Because the census shapes the distribution of power and resources for a
whole decade, we have to get this right.

Measures to ensure each person is counted and to protect the census passed
in the most recent House coronavirus relief package in May, now it's just
on the Senate to act.
