On August 6, 1965, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law. This landmark piece of legislation was monumental in dismantling racial discrimination in voting and ensuring that all Americans could make their voices heard at the ballot box.

Now, fifty-five years later, the right to vote is under attack again -- all because of the Republicans on the Supreme Court.

The Roberts Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013, paving the way for voter purges, discriminatory voter ID laws, and mass closures of polling places. Now, in the midst of a pandemic, the Republican justices are making voters choose between their health and safety, or their ability to cast their ballot.

This Supreme Court is no friend to the right to vote. But right now Congress has an opportunity to do something to protect the right to vote: they can support $3.6 billion in funding for necessary election reforms, including vote-by-mail and early voting expansion, that are pivotal to voting safely this fall.

Time is of the essence. Will you tell your Senators to support safe and fair elections?
