We will never forget the 23 innocent people who were killed in El Paso during a heinous act of domestic terrorism. Our hearts will forever remain with the victims, their families, and all those impacted by this senseless and hateful attack.
Flags were lowered to half-staff in memory of those who lost their lives in a senseless and hateful attack in El Paso one year ago this week. We are El Paso Strong. |
PROVIDING AN UPDATE ON TEXAS’ APPROACH TO THE UPCOMING FLU SEASON
As flu season approaches, the State of Texas is working closely with medical experts, state legislators, and state agency heads to develop proactive strategies that will reduce the spread of the flu in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is vital that every Texan continues to: - Wear a mask - Practice social distancing - Avoid group gatherings - Frequently sanitize their hands Texans should also get a flu shot as flu season approaches. These best practices will aid in our efforts to reduce the spread of both COVID-19 and the flu. |
TEMPORARY HEALTH CARE FACILITY OPENS AT MCALLEN CONVENTION CENTER
Texas is delivering on its commitment to provide care for Rio Grande Valley residents.
The McAllen Convention Center has been converted into a temporary health care facility and started taking COVID-19 patients this week. This facility will help increase the community’s hospital capacity, and it is an essential asset to Texas’ response to COVID-19 as we work to mitigate the spread of this virus. |
UPDATE ON PPE DISTRIBUTION TO TEXAS SCHOOLS
This week, I visited the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s (TDEM) Warehouse in San Antonio to provide an update on the state’s distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) to school districts for the upcoming academic year.
Texas will continue to purchase and distribute vast amounts of PPE to schools at no cost to school districts across the state. The health and safety of students, teachers, staff, and families remains our top priority as we enter into the 2020-21 academic year. TDEM’s Warehouse in San Antonio has distributed the following PPE to communities across the state since the pandemic began: |
DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR MEDICAID, CHIP PROVIDERS TO APPLY FOR CARES ACT PROVIDER RELIEF FUNDS
The federal government has further extended the deadline for eligible CHIP and Medicaid providers to apply for the CARES Act Relief Fund.
In addition, starting August 10, 2020, Medicare providers can apply for additional funding from the $20 billion portion of the $50 billion Phase 1 Medicare General Distribution. Our providers play a crucial role in caring for our fellow Texans, and we are grateful for their ongoing partnership as we respond to this virus. Providers can now apply for these funds through August 28, 2020 HERE. |
HHSC ANNOUNCES FEDERAL APPROVAL FOR SNAP BENEFIT REPLACEMENTS
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received federal approval to automatically provide replacement benefits for SNAP recipients for food lost or destroyed due to Hurricane Hanna in 6 impacted counties.
As communities rebuild from the damage caused by Hurricane Hanna, we are working to ensure Texans can continue to provide healthy meals for their families. |
EXTENDING TITLE 32 STATUS FOR THE TEXAS NATIONAL GUARD
President Trump has extended federal funding through the end of the year for the Texas National Guard to help combat COVID-19 across the state.
The Texas National Guard plays a vital role in our COVID-19 response and our recovery efforts. |
SURGING DOD RESOURCES TO VICTORIA, CORPUS CHRISTI TO HELP COMBAT COVID-19
The Department of Defense (DOD) has deployed an 85-person U.S. Army Reserve Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force to Corpus Christi and Victoria to help combat COVID-19.
This team consists of medical and support professionals who will help meet medical needs at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi Shoreline and DeTar Hospital Navarro in Victoria. Similar resources have also been deployed to the Rio Grande Valley. |
