Dear
Friend,
The Government is borrowing $1,125 every second. So by the time you
read to the bottom of this email, another $90,000 will be added to our
national mortgage.
This debt will continue to grow until at least 2024, when it is
forecast to total $200 billion – that’s $109,000 in debt for every
household in the country.
A 30-year political consensus of avoiding crippling public debt has
ended. The Government and Opposition are spending billions in borrowed
money via press release and tweet. The dam has burst.
Friend,
will you help us fight to rein in debt?
I’ve always felt that politicians need to value every single dollar
taken from taxpayers, but in these extraordinary time the
Taxpayers’ Union’s mission is more important that ever.
I’m chuffed with the efforts of the Debt Monster, our symbolic
mascot who is gatecrashing politicians’ campaign events, spoiling
their photos, and gaining media attention.
But we need to go further. The spectre of the Debt Monster needs to
weigh on the minds of all New Zealanders. We need to push the message
into newspapers, across social media, and onto the debate stage. Only
then will politicians focus their minds on reining in debt.
Will you contribute to our election
fund?
