Hello friends and allies!

Since November, almost 7,000 of you have taken action by signing a petition or contacting your legislators. Collectively, you’ve made 5,927 connections with state and federal legislators around the country. We’ve seen the impact you can make, and we need your help once again!

Since 2011, Shared Hope International has been grading state laws related to the commercial sexual exploitation of children. These grades have been guiding states’ efforts to reform their laws to comprehensively address child sex trafficking. We’re pleased to share that states have closed gaps in critical areas. These advancements in state laws include specifically criminalizing child sex trafficking, ensuring buyers of sex with children are treated as serious offenders, and increasingly recognizing the need for comprehensive, trauma-informed services for survivors. In fact, when we first began grading each state, the average score was 59.1% nationwide; by 2018, it was 82.9%. That’s a failing grade to a B grade!

Even as we celebrate these achievements, we recognize that there is much more to be done. To drive the next wave of law changes, we are working towards the release of a new grading framework in 2020 that will address some of the more nuanced and challenging issues related to child sex trafficking.

This is where your voice is needed! There are two possible ways for you to take action to support this initiative.

  • First, if you are a stakeholder working on the front lines of this fight, please share your knowledge by completing this 10–15 minute survey. Your experience will provide valuable insight into the challenges and successes of implementing and enforcing laws related to child sex trafficking.

  • Second, whether you are on the front lines or not, please share this survey with those who are working to prevent sex trafficking and/or provide services to trafficking survivors and at-risk populations. This feedback will be a critical component of ensuring the revised grading framework reflects emerging and established promising practices.

Please complete the survey no later than September 16, 2019.

We thank you in advance for playing this important part in moving states forward in the fight against child sex trafficking. Together, we can ensure children are better protected against child sex trafficking!

Warmly,
Shared Hope International Policy Team
