Dear John,

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law 55 years ago today, and its anniversary feels even more sentimental and urgent than it has in years past.

It is sentimental because it is the first time we are celebrating this anniversary without Congressman John Lewis, the Civil Rights hero who risked his life to get the bill signed into law. This anniversary is particularly urgent because we know that voter suppression is on the rise.

We're less than 90 days away from the most important election of our lifetime, and it's critical that we make sure everyone can vote on November 3rd. Discriminatory voter identification laws, shortened polling hours, limited polling locations, and the COVID-19 pandemic make voting challenging, if not impossible, for too many voters in our country.

Now is the time to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect the right to vote. Add your name if you agree.

Congressman John Lewis told us that "the vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society." He knew that the right to vote is constantly under attack, and that's why he fought his whole life to expand access to the ballot box.

After the Supreme Court struck down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Congressman Lewis led efforts to restore the Voting Rights Act in the House. He and Chris introduced the Voting Rights Advancement Act, which was renamed to the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act after his passing, to restore the integrity of the original Voting Rights Act.

Today, on the 55th anniversary of the original Voting Rights Act, will you join Chris in supporting the restoration of voting rights? Add your name now to demand the passage of this critical legislation.
