55 years ago today, Congress passed the Voting Rights Act, enshrining protections for all voters into law after decades of disenfranchisement for Black Americans.
Yet in 2013, the Supreme Court gutted the VRA, allowing Republican voter suppression to run rampant. [[link removed]]
We’ve seen states enact strict voter ID laws, purge voter rolls, shut down polling locations, and more – making it harder to vote, especially for people of color.
