On the ground in Beirut →

Dear Friend,

Right now, a devastating explosion is taking a massive toll on the families and children of Beirut. Already struggling hospitals are now completely overwhelmed with casualties. Some are so terribly damaged that patients are being treated by flashlight with whatever limited supplies can be collected from the rubble.

You may not know that I was born in Lebanon and grew up there during the civil war. Since then, I have been to many war zones, but I have never seen an explosion as powerful and destructive as this one. It breaks my heart to see the country of my birth go through so much.

Image of my aunt's home The photo above shows the destruction the explosion caused to my aunt’s home in Beirut.

When the blast hit, I was already traveling to Lebanon to attend to a family emergency. As such, I will be staying on to lead Project HOPE’s emergency efforts on the ground and help as much as we can. Our emergency response team is actively working with our partners to help the 5,000 plus people who have been injured and the more than 300,000 people who have lost their homes.

I know that many of us are facing huge struggles in our own homes, whether just working from home, trying to educate our children, or caring for other family members. But if you are able, please make an emergency gift to help today.

We are hard at work to get medicines, medical supplies, protective gear, and other lifesaving aid to Beirut as soon as possible. The people affected are especially in need of our help since Lebanon has the world’s largest refugee population per capita and was already struggling with a crippling economic crisis, on top of the devastation of COVID-19.

Your donation will mean so much to children and families facing this disaster in Beirut, as well as to people facing health crises in places like Houston, Kosovo, Yemen and beyond. Please give now to provide lifesaving aid like medicines, medical gear, and other support to the people of Beirut and countries around the globe.

In gratitude,

Rabih Torbay,
President and CEO

P.S. With your help, we can do even more to help save lives around the world. Our response teams are already stretched thin with so many children and families in need of supplies and training to stop the spread of COVID-19. Make an emergency gift today.
