55 years ago today, a landmark piece of legislation was passed that prohibits racial discrimination in voting: The Voting Rights Act of 1965.

In 2013, the Supreme Court took a massive hit at this amendment, allowing states to change their voting laws without federal permission.

Since then, we have seen voter suppression, which has taken a particularly hard hit on Black Americans across different states. From Voter ID laws to closing polling places in predominantly Black communities, this is wrong on every level and a serious flaw in our democracy.
