ACTION ALERT: Advance Protections for Seabirds and Shorebirds

TAKE ACTION: [link removed]

Estuaries, the coastal areas where rivers meet the ocean, are critically important for shorebirds and seabirds. In celebration of World Water Day, take action to protect them now.

Estuaries serve as ideal nesting sites and helpful stopovers for migrating birds--and restoring them is important for both birds and nearby communities. Many of these special places along America’s coasts are supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Estuary Program, which strengthens local community-led restoration of vital coastal habitat.

Created decades ago, this successful program has had longstanding bipartisan support. It is now nearing its expiration date, and steps are being taken by Congress to reauthorize and expand it through the ESTUARIES (Enhancing Science, Treatment, and Upkeep of America's Resilient and Important Estuarine Systems) Act.

Take action and ask your U.S. Senators to reauthorize the National Estuary Program: [link removed]

The National Estuary Program helps steward coastal habitat for hundreds of species of birds and wildlife, like Least Terns that arrive in the U.S. every spring from Central and South America to nest and raise their young. We need the ESTUARIES Act to secure protections for Least Terns and other vulnerable birds like oystercatchers and Red Knots.

Bird populations, local economies, outdoor recreation, and fisheries will all be uplifted by the ESTUARIES Act. Urge your U.S. Senators to support this Act and reauthorize our National Estuary Program before it expires.
