John,
The scenes of devastation in Beirut are heartbreaking — and this disaster comes as a catastrophic blow to a country already facing rising coronavirus infections, economic crisis and civil unrest.
It is a desperate situation — for people who have already been pushed to the brink. Can you help us act now?
Please, can you make an urgent donation today to help us reach more families wherever the need is greatest, like those in Lebanon?
BREAKING: The International Rescue Committee is launching an emergency response to provide immediate cash and economic assistance to those impacted and displaced by Tuesday's explosion in Beirut — while continuing lifesaving programs in crisis zones worldwide.
The IRC's support will help people meet their immediate needs in the aftermath of this terrible incident and support them to get back on their feet.
"It's clear that this latest crisis will only further deepen the suffering of people that have already been pushed to the brink."
— Mohammad Nasser, IRC's Acting Lebanon Country Director
The economy has been in free fall, and everyone in Lebanon — Lebanese and refugees alike — has been struggling. Although there has been a worrying upsurge in COVID-19 cases in the last weeks, the refugees and other people we work with have been more concerned about the economic collapse and increasing scarcity of food. 87% of households we spoke to in a recent survey said that lack of food was a critical concern for them.
This is urgent, John. We need your support right now to help our lifesaving programs worldwide and wherever the need is greatest. »
Working around the clock, our teams are launching an emergency response to provide immediate cash and economic assistance to those impacted — while continuing lifesaving programs in crisis zones worldwide.
The IRC began working in Lebanon in 2012, supporting both Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese communities. Our teams now implement education, economic recovery and development, and women’s and child protection programs in all regions of Lebanon.
With your support, IRC teams can continue to rush assistance and aid to those who need it most — while continuing our lifesaving programs in crisis zones worldwide.
Please, will you chip in today to help us reach more families in Lebanon and around the world? »
Thank you in advance for your support and compassion.
