Did you know that branches of our military were recruiting new soldiers using video game streaming services like Twitch?
Servicemembers and recruiters have been broadcasting themselves playing videogames ranging from the war-themed Call of Duty series to family-favorite, Fortnite. These streamers are blatantly using the platform as a recruitment effort.
While I salute their creative approach and adaptability, our military should not be recruiting children on gaming platforms, period. War is not a game -- and recruiting on these platforms perpetuates a fantastical, dehumanized, gamified view of serious situations.
I was proud to work with my colleague, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, last week to make an amendment to legislation that would end this practice.
