This is how the Trump administration cuts our lives short.

Dear John,

A home is where we find safety. It’s where we feed and nourish our bodies. It’s where we share meals with our families. It’s where we lay our heads and rest at night. The sad truth is that many trans people do not have homes, more so than the general population. One out of every three trans people you know has likely experienced homelessness, according to the U.S. Trans Survey of 2015.

That’s why we’re working with the #HousingSavesLives campaign to oppose the recent proposal from the Trump administration and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The recent proposal encourages homeless shelters to force trans people to be housed with members of their assigned sex at birth. We won’t let our trans community experiencing homelessness endure even more violence than they already have. Join our campaign by sending an official comment. Just click here.

Did you know that according to the Center of American Progress, 21 percent of shelters already refuse to serve trans women? This new rule from our government would only increase that number. Our government is cutting short the lives of trans people by aiding shelters in keeping trans people on the street. The cruelty is even greater during this pandemic.

This fight to saves the lives of those experiencing homelessness is connected to why we defend Black lives. We know policing, discrimination, and intimate partner violence especially harms Black trans people who need homes. We must continue to show up to send the message that the lives of Black trans people matter to us.

Take action right now by submitting a comment. By overwhelming federal offices with comments, we can interrupt the administration’s attempts at making this rule a reality.

In solidarity,

Ash and the TLC team
