Earlier this week, we exposed that there’s a ‘postcode lottery’ when it comes to coronavirus test result waiting time, with some parts of the country receiving test results far quicker than others. At the same time, a US study showed that we are heading for the ‘worst case’ greenhouse gas emission scenario. Things seem unfair and the climate crisis seems inevitable when we read headlines like this. But, there is evidence that better is possible, because better is happening right now.

If the last months have taught us anything, it is that time and time again we unite behind shared goals to conquer the issues we face. Only 6% of people wanted to return to business as usual after lockdown. Communities have come together to care for one another and regenerative community projects are increasing in numbers. Better is possible and together we can achieve a just and transformative Green Recovery. Will you give today so we can continue to campaign for the government to build back better?

The voice of the Green Party has never been more important to make sure that the recovery package we get from this pandemic really is green and will create system change. It must be one that builds back an economy that works for people, not people working for the economy. It must be one that promotes cooperation and inclusion rather than competition and exclusion. A Green Recovery means building resilient and regenerative communities, health care and food systems. It means not having to choose between keeping our houses warm and feeding our families. It means a roof over every head. And a social security system that lifts every single one of us up. That’s the world we want to see, and that is the world we need.
