Our city is facing a crisis that existed long before COVID-19, but is now escalating at a dangerous rate: Housing. Having a roof over your head is the foundation from which all avenues of success become possible. But the problem we face is multifaceted, and must be considered from an intersectional perspective. 

Housing is a human right! 

It’s about time that we have leaders who understand this simple fact.

As it stands, 46% of New Yorkers face eviction. Let's be very clear, this is a product of a decades-long systematic failure to provide affordable housing in our city. The situation has been compounded by the economic fallout of COVID-19, but this failure existed before. This is not a sudden crisis, but a crisis that has been compounded and laid bare for all to see. Unless we correct it, the fallout will be unprecedented. 

We cannot continue on our current path. We will not go back 

We must recognize housing as a fundamental human right.

We must CANCEL RENT for the duration of this public health and economic crisis.

We must INVEST in new and existing affordable housing, rent subsidies and rent stabilization initiatives that ensure everyone's human right, to a roof over their head, is protected.
