Since 1998, Rights Action has supported OFRANEH (Fraternal organization of Garifuna and Black peoples of Honduras) that, along with COPINH, is a leading grass-roots organizations in Honduras, struggling for land and territory defense, environmental protection, indigenous and all human rights and a fair and just “development” model.
Death squads operating against Garifuna people
We upload this archive, as OFRANEH leads a desperate search for five young men - including four Garifuna land defenders from the community of Triunfo de la Cruz - who were disappeared on July 18, 2020, by heavily armed men linked to the Honduran regime, and have not been seen since.

You will find articles, reports, films & urgent actions prepared by many folks, including Rights Action, over the past 20 years, as OFRANEH has spearheaded courageous - and deadly - struggles against wealthy sectors (national and international) involved in tourism and African palm production, that use the corruption of the Honduran political and legal institutions, and the violence of their own private security guards, ‘sicarios’ (hitmen), along with the Honduran police and military, to try and force the Garifuna people from their ancestral lands.
