COVID-19 is surging, tens of millions remain unemployed, and new data concludes that 40% of American renters are now at risk of facing eviction.

As of July 31, the federal pandemic unemployment assistance — an extra $600 a week for those who need it most — has expired...and yet, Republicans are still doing NOTHING despite the fact that they have legislation from the House sitting on their desk in the Senate that would help Americans desperately in need of financial assistance.

Despite the public health and economic crises we are facing, Republicans in the Senate are cruelly blocking the HEROES Act relief bill we passed months ago to provide desperately needed relief.

As the pandemic rages, they’re blocking additional funding to protect our elections and secure vote-by-mail. With state government budgets overstretched, Senate Republicans are denying the money needed to pay teachers, firefighters, custodians, and more.

This relief bill would also take steps to ensure that the Small Business Association (SBA) prioritizes legitimate small businesses, non-profit organizations, the self-employed, and microbusinesses.

By blocking relief, Republicans are siding with their multinational corporate donors at the expense of the small businesses that are the backbone of local economies.

Cruelty like this has no place in our democracy, and we need to speak out.
