We're working to extend aid, but people need help now Indivisibles,
Thanks to the inaction of Senate Republicans, much of the financial assistance and protections included in early COVID-19 response packages has expired in the last week. And now, at the beginning of the month, millions of people across the country are struggling to pay the rent and bills that will keep them and their families safe for the next few weeks.
We know it didn’t have to be this way, and we’re hard at work pushing for strong continued aid from the government. But in the meantime, people need help.
We started the IndiGIVEable program because we know there are tons of worthy causes out there that deserve funding, and they’re not always in our wheelhouse. We have a responsibility to use our platform to drive resources where they need to go -- so today we’re asking you to support efforts nationwide providing rental assistance, eviction protection, and services to keep people afloat at this critical moment.
Below, we’ve collected a few groups around the country who are working to provide assistance to those in need. This is by no means a comprehensive list, and we encourage you to seek out efforts in the communities you care about. If you’re able to donate, please do -- and if you’re in need of assistance yourself, these organizations are a great place to start:
For more ways to get involved, feel free to reach out to your local Indivisible group to find out about how they’re responding to the COVID-19 crisis.
In a better world, we wouldn’t have to shoulder this burden for one another, because people would have the public services and the resources they need to survive and thrive. We’re still working for that world. But where we can, we have to care for one another. Thanks for caring -- in whatever way you can.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
P.S. If you’re interested in hearing more about how activists across the country are working to protect their neighbors from eviction, People’s Action is holding a Homes Guarantee call tomorrow night, August 6, at 7PM ET to hear more from movement leaders about their actions -- you can click here to register!
