There’s been a lot of debate in Washington about what to do about ICE.

Some Democrats still talk about reforming the agency: new leadership, new rules, better oversight.

But after everything we’ve seen over the past year, that’s simply not realistic.

ICE is beyond repair. It should be abolished.

But abolishing the agency alone isn’t enough. There has to be accountability for the people who broke the law.

The masked agents who broke the law while carrying out these abuses should be prosecuted. You can’t enforce the law if you think you’re above it, and we’ve seen too many ICE officers act exactly that way — refusing to identify themselves, intimidating the communities they’re supposed to serve, kidnapping and even killing American citizens with a sense of impunity.

This isn’t just dangerous for our communities. It undermines trust in our democratic system.

The only way to rebuild that trust is to start with accountability. Then we can build the system our country actually needs: one that encourages people to come here legally, provides a clear pathway to citizenship, and enforces the law in a way that reflects American values.

Democrats can’t just say no to Trump. We have to show the country what we would do differently.
