The next generation of Christian leaders needs you

Dear John,

A few weeks ago, we conducted Phase III of the 2020 Blackstone Legal Fellowship, allowing many of the 156 Christian law students in this year’s program to meet in person for the first time.

It was just what these young people needed.

COVID-19 had forced the initial two weeks of lectures and relationship building of Phase I to be online. The pandemic also left its mark on Phase II of the summer program—the six-week internship period. (A work-from-home internship in the midst of state lockdowns is probably not what many students expected.)

That’s why Phase III was extra important this year, John.

When God put the vision for the Blackstone Legal Fellowship on the heart of ADF founder Alan Sears more than 20 years ago, he knew that these future leaders needed more than just training.

Yes, Blackstone provides a priceless legal education that is instrumental to these students’ success.

Blackstone helps equip these young people to stand for Truth in today’s hostile law school environment and develop the tools they need to impact the culture and legal system for good.

But Blackstone serves another purpose that is just as important for these young people and for the future of freedom here in America… community.

As a law student in the 1970s, Alan was no stranger to the opposition directed at Christian law students and their values.

The students who stand firm in their faith often face rejection and hostility from faculty, administrators, and even their peers.

It’s overwhelming, it’s demoralizing, and most of all, it’s isolating.

Alan knew that something needed to be done to help these talented young people see that they’re not alone.

He envisioned a program where future leaders could be encouraged, equipped, and connected with like-minded peers and accomplished professionals.

Thanks to God’s blessing, and your prayers and financial support, this vision led to the creation of the Blackstone Legal Fellowship.

When you support Blackstone, you support the next generation of Christian leaders

“I felt so alone.”

That’s the resounding theme when students describe their pre-Blackstone education experience. But time after time, these students graduate Blackstone feeling reenergized in their passions and fully equipped to carry on the mission God called them to.

Through Blackstone, they see that there is a place for them in the halls of government, at the helm of corporations and prestigious law firms, and in positions of influence in their communities—places where they can make a real difference.

And they are making a difference. The program is working.

Over 110 Blackstone graduates are in full-time legal nonprofit work advocating for your religious freedom.

Several hundred work for federal, state, and local governments providing influence over legislation and policy.

A growing number are becoming law professors and business leaders.

And the best part is that these impressive young people are driven by a deep desire to defend your right to freely live out your faith. They want to protect your freedom to raise your children and grandchildren as you see fit, so the Gospel can flourish from generation to generation.

But here’s the problem, John. It should’ve been 232 law students who joined us this year.

That’s the number of highly qualified applicants we had for Blackstone this year that could’ve been learning, networking, and benefitting from this life-changing experience. That’s the number of future leaders we wanted to train, equip, and encourage to fight and win for your freedom.

It was hard to turn away nearly 70 young people this year. Just as it’s hard to turn away dozens of highly qualified applicants each year. But our resources only go so far.

It costs nearly $25,000 to put one student through the program.

That’s why your help is needed now.

You can see that there is immense opportunity to grow the Blackstone program. But that growth is wholly dependent on God’s provision (John 15:5) and your faithful prayers and support.

If you care deeply about the current battles for freedom in this country, please consider making a tax-deductible gift today to help grow this important program, John.

Generous ADF Ministry Friends have donated a $250,000 grant to match your gift to support the Blackstone Legal Fellowship dollar for dollar. That means your gift today will be doubled—a $10 gift will become $20, a $100 gift will become $200, and a $1,000 gift will become $2,000.

But the match won’t last forever.

Please take advantage of this rare opportunity to double your tax-deductible gift right now. Because of the blessing of the match, your gift will have twice the impact to support the next generation of Christian leaders.

Thank you for your generosity.
