AUGUST 6, 2020: Seventy-five (75) years ago today, the _Enola Gay_ dropped a five-ton atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later, another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. The bombing of Hiroshima immediately killed 80,000 people. Tens of thousands more died in the following weeks. Another 40,000 were killed in the bombing of Nagasaki.[1] ([link removed])

However, the bombings saved an untold number of American lives and brought World War II to an end. After years of global warfare, the Japanese surrendered within days.[1] ([link removed])
